Filip Urban (born 1995) belongs to the youngest generation of Czech conductors. After graduating from the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, he continued his studies in conducting at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno in the class of Prof. Jan Zbavitel. He is currently continuing his doctoral studies at the JAMU in Brno. In the year 2021/2022 he also completed a foreign internship at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. As a conductor he has collaborated with the Sinfonietta Dresden, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra in Zlín, North Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra Teplice, Chamber Wind Harmony Brno, Hochschule für Musik Dresden Orchestra, Janáček Academic Orchestra, and the Collegium musicum Orchestra. He began his career as an opera conductor in 2014 as assistant to conductor Tomáš Brauner at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. He also collaborates with the Musical Contemporary Festival in Ostrava and in 2020 he was selected as conductor for the festival "The Best" at the HAMU in Prague, where he performed in the Martinů Hall with the Orchestra of Academic Chamber Soloists. In 2018 he spent two months as an artist-in-residence at the Ryan International School in Bengaluru, India. Since 2022, he has also held the position of teacher of conducting and music theory at the Brno Conservatory.
He has been the conductor of our orchestra since 2022, chief conductor since 2023.
